Preperation is the key to success. If you don't come prepared you are preparing to fail. Always prepare your lesson plans in advance. Know what you are going to do throughout your training session and be prepared to make small adjustments if necessary. The only thing you should expect is the unexpected. You should always setup your cones for all phases of your taining session before it begins.
Always bring the following to every training session :
- Ball for every player (alternatively have each player bring their own ball.)
- Opposing color pinnies (jerseys) to make it easier for players to distinguish each other during scrimmages.
- Colored discs (cones) for defining boundries.
- Bring extra pairs of shingaurds because undoubtedly someone will forget to bring their own at some point during the season.
- Optional : Pop up goals or any other training equipment that will make your task easier. You can use cones to make goals.
Objectives :
1. Create lesson plans that will allow players to receive many touches on the ball. 1 to 1 player to ball ratio.
2. Ensure training sessions are enjoyable and challenging for "every" player
on the team.
3. Be a facilitator not a distraction. The game is the best teacher. So create games that simulate challenges they face in the real game and limit the interuptions. Be constructive not disruptive.
4 Create a safe and healthy learning environment where your players are free to fail sucessfully and where they can learn to be creative and not be afraid to take risks.
5. Teach your players and parents to love and respect the game, opponents, officials, and spectators. Take control of your team and the sideline. Do not allow parents to coach from the sideline or be a distraction to the players or verbally abuse the referees. Set the example early on and show them you are in charge. By setting this expectation at practice you
will avoid problems during your games.
" The true measure of your coaching ability is not measured by wins and losses, but by your ability to challenge every player to overcome their own self doubt. "
